Congratulations to our former student Sarah Gogel, Class of 2000, who received the distinction of Chevalier, l’ordre national du Mérite in an official ceremony last week! She received her medal from Isabelle Giordano, founder of Cinéma pour tous and director of the Fondation BNP Paribas.
To qualify for the National Order of Merit, individuals must have a record of distinguished public service over at least 10 years. Sarah’s award coincides with the 10-year anniversary of her NGO Yes Akademia (YAKA), of which she is both a founder and director. We are very proud of our former student for bringing to life our school’s mission and its motto of Think, Dare, Share & Care!

YAKA offers extra-curricular pedagogical empowerment programs to youth from marginalized neighborhoods in France. Its mission is to increase the self-esteem and core global citizenship competencies of youth from diverse backgrounds by engaging them, their families, and their communities to learn about and work first-hand to address development issues locally and globally.
